Olhão

Olhão is located approximately 15 kilometers from Faro airport and the municipality of Olhao covers an area of around 131 Km2 and it is divided into five civil parishes;  Fuseta, Moncarapacho, Olhao, Pechao and Quelfes and has approximately 42,000 residents.

Olhão town has the main fishing port in the Algarve. Olhão, located on the east side of the Algarve, is a fairly quiet area, however, this area attracts  more and more interest over the last few years. This emerging interest is justified; the town of Olhão has a busy indoor market where to find a large assortment of fresh fish, meat, vegetables and fruit every day. Also the town has a traditional atmosphere, narrow streets which form a maze if you are not familiar in this quaint town, but make sure that you can walk around and do great shopping.

The coast of Olhão contains many islands, creeks and sandbanks. The Ria Formosa lagoon is also a national park which extends over the municipalities Olhão, Tavira and Faro and is about 17,000 hectares. You can go for a walk here and enjoy nature and tranquility.

What many people do not know is that in this region is also very attractive for beach lovers. In Olhão you can go by ferryboat to the beautiful beaches of Ilha da Culatra, but perhaps even better is the Ilha de Armona opposite the fishing and wine-growing village Fuseta.

Another very interesting village in this area is Moncarapacho; You will find all facilities for groceries and it offers the perfect environment for a number of beautiful green sites where you can find beautiful villas for your holiday home, rental investment or permanent residence!

Olhão is located near Spain; being only 30 minutes from the border making a day trip very possible. Faro airport is approximately 15 minutes driving.
