Micael Rijo

"Photographing beautifully designed homes, their surroundings, and views, sometimes including people in those shots, followed by filming everything, feels less like work. I wake up with a smile on my face and go to bed with the same smile."

How it all started

My passion for the arts began at birth, influenced by my father's hobbies in photography and video. I was drawn to music, film, and visual arts from a young age. At six, I started studying music and quickly realized that my life had to be centered around art.

Simultaneously, I developed an interest in marketing and sales, influenced by my parents' work in local accommodation, which sparked my love for architecture and nature. I studied at a music conservatory, tourism, arts and multimedia, photography, video, and marketing.

During my time as a real estate agent, I noticed a significant gap in real estate marketing. Now, I combine all my interests as an architectural and nature photographer, creating promotional videos and helping marketing teams build strong brand identities.

Working with Divine Home is a pleasure, as the company shares my values, allowing me to live each day doing what I love.

Why I love my job

I love my job for its creativity and the fact that every day is different and authentic, where anything can happen. I have never enjoyed a 9-to-5 office lifestyle, and I could never tolerate it. I don’t measure work by hours, but by the focus and dedication I put into what I do. In my work, there are no set hours, only goals, which keeps me constantly motivated.

The best part is being able to travel through the Algarve and Alentejo while photographing and filming. I am surrounded by the beauty of nature, starting my day as the sun rises and ending it by capturing stunning sunsets over endless fields or the ocean.

Daily interactions with different people who share their stories, most of whom I will never see again, enrich my experience. Lastly, photographing beautifully designed homes, their surroundings, and views, sometimes including people in those shots, followed by filming everything, feels less like work. I wake up with a smile on my face and go to bed with the same smile.

When I'm not working

I am an adventurer by nature. Outside of work, I love extreme sports like motorbiking, surfing, and trekking. I enjoy spending time in nature, whether at the beach or on top of a mountain. Traveling and exploring the world is one of the best experiences; I am addicted to it.

I cherish moments with my family, especially when we gather to enjoy our wonderful Portuguese cuisine. I also love playing the drums and listening to music; sometimes, that alone fulfills me. I am quite spiritual, and for me, connecting with nature and ourselves is more than enough for a good moment of relaxation.

If I had to choose an example of what I enjoy doing outside of work, it would be a simple motorbike ride to a location within or outside Portugal, passing through less populated regions and feeling the constant presence of nature. Stopping for lunch or even camping overnight makes for an ideal day for me outside of work.
